Common Core Weekly Reading Homework 4th Grade

My first few years pedagogy I went back and forth on reading homework to give my students. I teach in inner city, title 1 schools so the bulk (if non all) of my students to not take admission to adept books to read at home. So, I knew I needed to give my students something to read and respond to, but I wanted it to be purposeful and meaningful homework, and a plus if information technology was aligned to the common core reading standards.

Since I couldn't observe anything already made, I decided to spend the time (information technology took months!) to create a Common Core Reading Homework that would ameliorate my students' reading and assistance them master the standards.

I take been using this all year so far, and I accept to say that this common core reading homework  has been a complete life saver for me this year. I have not had to worry nigh reading homework at all. And the best part is that each week I know that what I am giving the students for homework is meaningful and common core aligned.

This new type of reading homework is helping my students and then much that I wanted to make sure and write a detailed mail service explaining each component this new reading homework "organisation". This is something you can recreate yourself (using costless passages online and following the steps outlined in my postal service) or purchase my ready-made sets to salvage time.

In each bundle (there is a 3rd class parcel and a fourth/5th grade bundle), there are a total of 9 sets, for a total of 36 weeks of homework. Each set focuses on specific common cadre reading skills and can exist mixed and matched to fit any pacing guide.

These sets are cleaved down like this:

• 4 reading passages that focus on a specific mutual core reading skill(south) (1 passage a calendar week)
• several options for daily assignments to use with the passages
• Th text dependent comprehension questions that allow for further exercise of the focus skill (and other Mutual Core skills as well)
• answer keys and specific common core alignment for the comprehension questions

My students often use this page to jot down notes to remind themselves of what is required. Sometimes (and particularly at the beginning of the school twelvemonth) we will read and discuss the assignments together and write reminders by the assignment. Each consignment is made specifically for the passages in the set. The assignments often build on each other as well (depending on the set.) They are differentiated, and each prepare has 3-4 options of consignment pages to meet the needs of your students. The gear up shown is from my Primary Idea prepare.

Each day, the students read the same passage and consummate a different response with the passage. Equally I mentioned above, each gear up comes with multiple direction pages so you tin can pick and choose the directions that all-time fit your needs and the needs of your students.

What virtually my lower readers?

At this time, my passages are not differentiated (simply the daily assignments are). To support my lower readers, I read the passage with them in a pocket-size group on Mon. If the bulk of my students are lower readers or if the skill is difficult for them, nosotros will read and discuss the passage together on Monday.
